Who is eligible for free pandemic monovalent influenza vaccination?
Monovalent pandemic influenza vaccine is free to the following groups:

1.  Frontline health workers as defined by each District Health Board

  • This includes staff in general practice, emergency departments, intensive care units and those who may have direct contact with at-risk patients

2.  Anyone aged 6 months to 65 years of age with one or more of the following conditions:

  • Cardiovascular disease (ischaemic heart disease, congestive heart disease, rheumatic heart disease, congenital heart disease, cerebrovascular disease)
  • Chronic respiratory disease (asthma if on regular preventive therapy; other chronic respiratory disease with impaired lung function) 
  • Diabetes
  • Chronic renal disease
  • Cancer (patient currently has cancer), excluding basal and squamous skin cancer if not invasive
  • Other conditions (autoimmune disease, immune suppression, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), transplant recipients, neuromuscular and central nervous system diseases, haemoglobinopathies and children on long term aspirin)

3.  Pregnant women (2010 only)

4.  Morbidly obese individuals (2010 only)

5.  Healthy children aged 6 months to their fifth birthday enrolled in an Eligible Practice (2010 only) - click here for a list of Eligible Practices

Please refer to the MoH Early Prevention Information Pack (link above) for claiming the mmunisation benefit for the Celvapan® vaccine.

There has not been time to reconfigure Practic Management Systems (PMS) to record Celvapan®.  However, General Practice should clearly document the administration of Celvapan® in patient notes.
